DIY Tips That Can Make You A Better Designer

By: Elanora Brown

Whether you are planning for designing graphics on own or want to outsource the work to any graphic design agency in Singapore or elsewhere. Here are some tips that you may use to improve the skills:

1. Have A Sense For Colors

If you have paid attention to good-looking designs, you would have observed that they have beautiful colors. And it’s not accidentally those colors have been chosen. Better designing starts with a great color palette. If you are finding it difficult to choose your own colors then site like Color Lovers offer millions of beautiful color palettes. All you have to do is to find the right hex code and then use it in your design.

2. Don’t Get Carried Away With Fonts

It is better to limit yourself to either 1 or 2 fonts. Working this way you don’t have to worry about the tons of combinations. In case you are going to use multiple fonts, it is better to use one for the header and other for the body.

3. Good To Have Swipe Files

If you don’t know what a swipe file is, then it refers to the instances of good copy that copywriters see. Here it will mean the instances of good design that you see. Take those examples and store them somewhere in the computer and online as well. You can use them when the time is right. Sparingly learning from other’s design is okay, but you should not be using them in entirety.

4. Make Use Of White Spaces

It is also good to blank out if the design becomes too cluttered. There is nothing to be afraid about when you leave a blank & white space in the design. Believe it or not sometimes, less is more. If the designs get so cluttered some white space with nothing on it actually enhances the design. For instance, just take a look at the marketing images created by Apple.

5. Align The Objects

In this way, you’ll be able to keep design elements in a presentable order, irrespective of the differing sizes.  With proper alignment, you can easily give the images a sophisticated and professional look.

6. Use Icons

The icons are like black pepper. You can use them on the top of whatever design you are making. Icons spice up the design and make it very useful and look better as well. They also enhance the readability of the design which makes it easy to use by the visitors.

7. Take A Second Look

If you are working with many designs across the ad campaign, website or another project, it’ll be easier if you just rinse and repeat. All you have to do is just to copy the design and then swap out the elements that you might want to be changed.

In The End

These tips are as helpful to you as they are to the designer working for you in a graphic design agency Singapore or elsewhere. Go ahead and make the best use of them.
